Lead Storage Administrator

San Jose - CA

Mandatory Skills: Oracle Admin Database Performance Tuning, Infra Performance and Optimization, Database Consulting, Database High Availability, VMware Admin, and Database Admin.

Job Description:

MySQL Database Administrator who will be responsible for ensuring the performance, availability, and security of clusters of MySQL instances. You will also be responsible for orchestrating upgrades, backups, and provisioning of database instances.

Will also work in tandem with the other teams, preparing documentations and specifications as required.

A. Proactive Monitoring

Monitoring of all the Critical Parameters for a database:

·         Table space, segment, and extent & block level.

·         Checking performance of the associated background processes

·         Buffer Cache utilization.

·         Redo log contention.

·         Resource intensive users, processes o Negative or duplicate usage

·         Fragmentation of table spaces, tables & indexes o

·         Memory / I/O / CPU Utilizations for the RDBMS

·         Disk Free Space

·         Alert Logs for errors o DB Backup Logs

·         Unsuccessful Logins

·         Monitor system performance and recommend actions for improving the system: Analyze the result of the Daily monitoring procedures and suggest if any changes are required to improve the performance of the Database / System / Applications.

B. DB Backup

·         Implement backup strategy of the databases & assisting for proper restoration and recovery.

·         Type and Frequency of Backups will be planned as per criticality database related incidents & problems

·         Restoration of database, archive log.

·         Database recovery with minimal downtime by using the right backups available. Recovery will depend of efficiency of backup strategy as planned in consultation with OUR ORGANIZATION.

C. House Keeping Tasks

·         Regular defragmentation activities for better space management and performance

·         Perform table-loading jobs

D. Administration Tasks

·         Perform Database object creation / modification activities through import utility. The Database Administrator will implement any change in the Database.

·         Assist users in accessing and using the information: Assisting users in connecting to the Database through the applications. Handle database configuration problems.

E. Incident & Problem Management

·         Coordination with principle / vendors: Coordination with the vendor / principal, for patch codes, bug fixes, upgrades on a need / no need basis and also for any technical escalation (i.e. the Database software, and OS vendors and Storage Principals)

·         Check and respond to all database related calls in the Service Desk and follow up for the closure of the activities and update the call status.

F. Trend Based Consulting

Involvement in implementation for database availability, performance and automation.

Skill set for MySQL DBA:

·         Strong proficiency in MySQL database management.

·         Decent experience with recent versions of MySQL.

·         Understanding of MySQL's underlying storage engines

·         Experience with replication configuration in MySQL.

·         Knowledge of de-facto standards and best practices in MySQL.

·         Proficient in writing and optimizing SQL statements.

·         Knowledge of MySQL features, such as its event scheduler.

·         Ability to plan resource requirements from high level specifications.

·         Knowledge of limitations in MySQL and their workarounds in contrast to other popular relational databases.

·         Proficient understanding of code versioning tools such as {{CVS, SVN}}.
